No On AA

No additional funding for MVWSD until we see district spending focus on students' needs!

Our kids should have full time, high quality, PE teachers, Art Teachers,  and core subject teachers.

They don't need 12 District administrative officers and directors that spend thousands of dollars on executive coaching, public relations, and "guided meditation" sessions!

Full Statement against AA

As parents, community members, and taxpayers in the MVWSD community,
we have serious concerns about the district’s poor fiscal management.

Over the past decade, the MVWSD revenue has increased 127%. In that time, spending on administrative salaries has increased by almost 145%.  Spending on classroom teachers has  increased by half that (78%).

Despite consistent revenue increases, the district has refused to directly fund additional teachers to reduce class sizes. Instead the district’s spending priorities have focused on a variety of unnecessary and noneducational contractors combined with staffing outside of classrooms. This includes $1000 guided meditation sessions for district leadership.

Rather than hire high quality, full-time teaching professionals, MVWSD has continued to use external programming services.  Surveys show lackluster results related to “feelings of community”, likely due to the high turnover of educators.

According to Board Bylaws, Trustees are responsible for supervising district finances. However, our board has failed in its fiduciary duty.

This is apparent in the administrative bloat, questionable contracts, and a lack of fiscal transparency.  Antagonistic communication has deteriorated relations with the City and the Community, limiting alternative avenues for funding.

We are told that there is a funding emergency, but the District currently has $29 million in reserves. This dwarfs the revenue that is expected from this tax measure and is multiple times higher than the state recommendation.

As parents, educators, and community members committed to prioritizing education, we demand responsible spending and a collaborative approach from the Superintendent and Trustees. Until significant changes are made, we urge you to vote NO on Measure AA.
